2007-2008 Candidate Statement - Cris Powell

For the past 2 years I have been serving CI’s campus community in a lot of ways.  My primary role has been as an RA in Student Housing.  I have put on a variety of events ranging from the “Spring Gala,” a Surf Competition, Penny Wars, a Madden Tournament, and Much More.  I have also served on numerous committees including the Student Fee Committee, Class Ring Committee, and Athletic Advisory Committee. 

If voted Student Government President I plan on working towards a more connected campus.  I believe that by connecting the different entities on campus it will provide the necessary platform for students to have their voice heard.  Students will be able to provide input about different areas of campus such as: Islands Café, Rec Center, Parking Services, etc.  Another major goal of mine is to help CI’s Sports get off the ground.  I have been working closely with Staff and Faculty over the past 2 years on our Sports Program and we are just a few steps away from competing against other universities.  Other goals include facilitating student involvement, providing constant programming, designing the student union, and communicating student concerns.
