Statement

Hello CI Students,

My name is Kiana Sailor, and it is with great excitement to announce that I am running for next year’s 2016-2017 senator position. I am currently a sophomore majoring in Biology from the Inland Empire area. I plan to go into medicine to become a Pediatrician. I have been involved in various leadership opportunities at CI that have shaped my interest in representing the student body and being the bridge between students and Student Government. My leadership roles include Orientation Leader, Desk Assistant in Housing and Residential Education (HRE), Leaders in Education Awareness Program (LEAP), and the Community Relations coordinator of Black Student Union. Through service in these leadership roles, I have learned that I am a servant leader, a leader who leads by serving others and giving back to the community. I have the ability to communicate with different types of students effectively and make others feel welcomed. I have also attended Back to Basics leadership retreat and have received the Legacy Award 2014-2015 Outstanding first-year student leader award.  Back to Basics has taught me not to doubt my leadership abilities and that leadership takes integrity and character. These leadership roles have given me the opportunity to connect with administrators, faculty, and staff at CI. My purpose in serving as a senator is to meet the needs of my peers and help make student needs become a reality.

Thank you,

Kiana Sailor

Platform

Though I am not running for a specific senator position, I would like to implement

  • Student Government being more accessible to students and in ways that are interesting to students. Such have tabling throughout the month to see what students suggest and what they would like to see from student government.
  • Provide safe spaces for underrepresented populations on campus
  • Encourage campus-wide involvement: I think it would be awesome to have volunteer opportunities targeted to the whole campus community so we have not only students, but faculty, staff, and administration getting involved and connecting with each other outside of academics.
